Connections between "Falcon Crest" and Other Productions

(revised 05/15/2023)

Many props from "Falcon Crest" were reused in other productions, which is a usual process in the entertainment industry because not everything is bought specifically for a production. Below are a few striking examples of pieces of furniture and other items for set dressing (in this case bedroom furniture) that were prominently reused in other shows or came from other shows and were reused on "Falcon Crest".

Bed
(Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion – Angela Channing's Bedroom; # 002 and 005):

The bed in Angela's bedroom in the Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion in season 1 was not a LORIMAR owned prop, but rented from THE BURBANK STUDIOS (nowadays WARNER BROS. STUDIOS).

After "Falcon Crest", this antique bed was used in season 6 of the original "Dynasty" series in the episode "The Aftermath" (# 116 <6.01>; original U.S. airdate: 09/25/1985, ABC) in Luke Fuller's guest bedroom in King Galen's Summer Palace in the fictional country of Moldavia.
"Dynasty" was produced by THE OIL COMPANY, show-specific production entity controlled by AARON SPELLING. Its first two seasons were filmed at 20TH CENTURY FOX STUDIOS (nowadays 20TH CENTURY STUDIOS) in Culver City, CA. After that, the show moved to WARNER HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS in West Hollywood, CA (historically known as SAMUEL GOLDWYN STUDIO and later PICKFORD - FAIRBANKS STUDIOS, nowadays known as THE LOT). WARNER BROS. owned that studio during between 1980 and 1999. As a very small facility, WARNER HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS did not have a prop department of their own. While most of the props used on "Dynasty" were owned by THE OIL COMPANY or rented from elsewhere, some props were rented by AARON SPELLING from the studio's affiliate, the prop department on WARNER's main lot in Burbank, CA, THE BURBANK STUDIOS at that time (nowadays WARNER BROS. STUDIOS). This is how said bed came to the set of "Dynasty" during location filming at HAROLD LLOYD's Greenacres Estate in Beverly Hills, CA, which posed as the Moldavian King's Summer Palace.

Bed
(Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion – Julia Cumson's Bedroom; # 026 /
Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion – Emma Channing's Bedroom; # 063 /
Agretti Residence – Master Bedroom; seasons 4 and 5):

In # 026 only, Julia's bedroom in the Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion was equipped with a set of white furniture including a bed with a curved headboard that contained a distinct carving in the center. The same furniture was used in Emma's bedroom in the Mansion in # 063 only after she no longer used the tower studio.
In season 4 and at the beginning of season 5 (until the refurnishing in # 105), the same furniture was used to dress Melissa and Cole's bedroom in the Agretti Residence.

After "Falcon Crest", LORIMAR used this bed in "Knots Landing" in the guest bedroom of the MacKenzies' home in the final episode "Just Like Old Times — Part II" (# 344 <14.19>; original U.S. airdate: 05/13/1993, CBS).

Bed
(Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion Rooftop Studio, Emma Channing's Bedroom;
seasons 1 and 2):

The bed in Emma's rooftop studio in the Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion from seasons 1 and 2 was not a LORIMAR owned prop, but rented from THE BURBANK STUDIOS (nowadays WARNER BROS. STUDIOS).

This bed was previously used on other shows filmed at THE BURBANK STUDIOS, in particular two episodes of "Police Woman":
"Once a Snitch" (# 57 <3.12>; original U.S. airdate: 01/04/1977, NBC);

and "Silky Chamberlain" (# 66 <3.21>; original U.S. airdate: 03/08/1977, NBC; screen capture 2).
That series was produced by COLUMBIA PICTURES TELEVISION. At the time, COLUMBIA PICTURES shared an interest in THE BURBANK STUDIOS.

Bed
(Gioberti House – Master Bedroom;
seasons 4 through 7):

Between seasons 4 and 7, there was a white metal framed bed with decorative elements in the form of grapevines in Chase and Maggie's master bedroom at the Gioberti House. The screen capture is an example from # 070 <4.02>.
This LORIMAR owned prop was used in other productions before and after "Falcon Crest".

  • "Flamingo Road":

    It was previously featured on LORIMAR's "Flamingo Road" in Sandy Swanson's apartment.
    The screen grab is an example from "Double Exposure" (# 29 <2.14>; original U.S. airdate: 02/23/1982, NBC).

  • "Hart to Hart":

    It was also previously featured on COLUMBIA's "Hart to Hart" in the guest bedroom at a wildlife ranch. This show filmed at THE BURBANK STUDIOS at the time and rented it from LORIMAR.
    The screen grab is from "Hunted Harts" (# 078 <4.11>; original U.S. airdate: 01/04/1983, ABC).

  • "Dallas":

    It was later used multiple times in LORIMAR's "Dallas":
    This first screen capture is an example from "Last of the Good Guys" (# 277 <10.26 – original count> / <11.26 – DVD count>; original U.S. airdate: 04/08/1988, CBS) where it resurfaced as Connie Hall's bed.

    The second screen grab is from a particularly funny use of this bed as a prop in "The Phantom of the Oil Rig" (# 308 <12.01 – original count> / <13.01 – DVD count>; original U.S. airdate: 09/22/1989, CBS). That episode resumed the storyline about Sue Ellen Ewing's autobiographical movie, and the filming location of the studio where that movie was shot was the actual studio where "Dallas" was filmed — LORIMAR STUDIOS (previously MGM STUDIOS, nowadays SONY PICTURES STUDIOS) in Culver City, CA. The bed's headboard was carried between the sound stages on 5th Avenue on the studio lot.
  •

  • "Knots Landing":

    In LORIMAR's "Knots Landing", it was first used in Paige Matheson and Johnny Rourke's hotel room in Santa Tecla; the screen grab is from "Mother Knows Best" (# 214 <9.24>; original U.S. airdate: 03/31/1988, CBS).

    It was later reused as Michael and Linda Fairgate's bed; the screen grab is an example taken from "Bad Dog" (# 295 <12.19>; original U.S. airdate: 02/28/1991, CBS).

Bed
(Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion Guest Bedroom; # 001 /
Gioberti House Guest Bedroom; # 012):

The bed in the Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion guest bedroom in which Chase and Maggie slept in # 001 and the bed in the Gioberti House guest bedroom in which Jacqueline slept is the same prop; compare # 012 in our Behind the Scenes section.

This bed was not a LORIMAR owned prop, but rented from THE BURBANK STUDIOS (nowadays WARNER BROS. STUDIOS). After being featured on "Falcon Crest", it was used on other shows filmed at THE BURBANK STUDIOS, in particular in "Hart's Desire", an episode of "Hart to Hart" (# 073 <4.06>; original U.S. airdate: 11/16/1982, ABC). That series was produced by COLUMBIA PICTURES TELEVISION. At the time, COLUMBIA PICTURES shared an interest in THE BURBANK STUDIOS.

Bed, Sideboard and Nightstand
(Agretti Residence – Master Bedroom;
seasons 6 and 7):

After the earthquake, Melissa's bedroom was refurnished with a set of bright contemporary oak wood pieces, including a bed, two nightstands, an armoire and a sideboard.

Some of the pieces from that set resurfaced later on LORIMAR's "Knots Landing":
In season 12, the nightstands and the sideboard were used in Claudia and Kate Whittaker's hotel room. Screen grab 1 of the sideboard is from "You Can Call Me Nick" (# 282 <12.06>; original U.S. airdate: 11/01/1990, CBS). Screen capture 2 of one of the nightstands is from "God Will" (# 279 <12.03>; original U.S. airdate: 09/27/1990, CBS).

In season 13, the bed and one of the nightstands resurfaced in Professor Truwald's bedroom in "And the Walls Come Tumbling Down" (# 315 <13.12>; original U.S. airdate: 01/02/1992, CBS).

Later, the bed and the nightstands were used to refurnish the guest bedroom in the MacKenzies' home. The screen grab is from "Do You Love Me?" (# 324 <13.21>; original U.S. airdate: 04/02/1992, CBS).

Only the bed finally resurfaced in the guest bedroom of Claudia Whittaker's house on Seaview Circle in "Hints and Evasions" (# 340 <14.15>; original U.S. airdate: 02/25/1993, CBS).
These props became assets of WARNER BROS. after buying out LORIMAR in 1989. However, their fate remains a mystery since they are no longer in the possession of their prop department.

Bedding
(Richard Channing's 3rd House, Tuscany Valley – Master Bedroom;
season 7):

In season 7, silver / burgundy satin bedding was sometimes used in the master bedroom of Richard's third house in the Tuscany Valley. The duvet was reversible with one side in the identical color scheme of the pillowcase and the other side in full silver color.

This LORIMAR owned bedding was previously used in Abby and Gary Ewing's hotel suite at the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego, CA in "Until Parted by Death" (# 139 <7.09>; original U.S. airdate: 11/21/1985, CBS) of "Knots Landing".
