Coincidence or writers' intention? The episode title is identical with the one of a 1933 movie with many revelations during a dinner party. In 1989 (when the current episode was filmed), a remake of said movie was produced.

Cast and crew background: JOEL OKMIN, who co-wrote this episode with executive producer MICHAEL FILERMAN, is FILERMAN's nephew — the son of FILERMAN's sister KAREN.

Mistake: The close-ups of Lance and Pilar at the Del Oro racquetball court are from various takes that were combined in the editing process. This becomes apparent when Lance's head and Pilars left hand are in different positions in subsequent frames.
Again, this is the typical mistake caused by the particular close-up filming technique — check # 001 (Chase and Maggie at the Gioberti Family Cemetery) for details.

The scene is shot at what used to be the Racquet Center on Ventura Boulevard in Studio City, CA. The Racquet Center was demolished in 1998 to make room for a strip mall; the Capital Source Bank is standing in its place now.

Wonderful improvisation: Once again, DAVID SELBY spontaneously adds another feature to Richard's character that was not written in the script. When Richard and Angela have breakfast in the Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion sun room and he asks Chao-Li for more coffee, he states he hates coffee and only drinks it because he needs it (probably because of the caffeine). It is these little things that make Richard's character so unique and realistic.

Joseph's confirmation will be "next week" according to Maggie. Roman-Catholic kids, however, usually have their confirmation approximately at the age of nine. But Joseph is not even seven years old. Compare # 053, 061, 074, 089 and 160 for misleading information about Joseph's age.

A privately owned Los Angeles home, the former mansion of Hollywood legend MARY PICKFORD, which was also used as Dimitrov's home in Yugoslavia in # 168, is now introduced in the establishing shots for Seven Pines.
The interior scenes and the garden scene, however, are shot on a different private property in Encino, CA. It was quite a new house at that time; built in 1988, it became the home of actor DAVID HASSELHOFF, but he sold it in 2013.

Fictional entities: Two more Tuscany Valley wineries purchased by Troilus are mentioned: Morton Grove and Castleton Vineyards.

BO BRUNDIN has a nice Swiss accent in Willi Kender's speaking English.

Deleted scene: The original act 2 opener was Lance and Pilar's arrival at the Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion for Angela's dinner party. While Pilar, at the front door, states that she knows Angela does not want her at this dinner, Lance says he wants her and is not going in without her. This scene was filmed, but removed in post-production.

Edited scenes during Angela's dinner party — filmed, but cut in post-production:
  • Before Lance comes back to the living room from the study and talks to Diane, the director's cut contained a short conversation between Pilar and her. Pilar approaches Diane and says she is sorry if things have not worked the way she wanted. Cookie replies: "Don't waste your pity on me, Miss Ortega. Frankly, I'm not sure Lance is worth having."
  • Nick and Anna are looking at a painting in the Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion living room. Anna decides to say hello to Maggie. When Anna moves off, Pilar approaches Nick, saying he looks happy — for the first time since she met him. He replies that he takes she is happy, too, and that if he had to lose out to anyone, he is glad that it was Lance. For a moment, they think about if it was just the wrong timing for them. The chemistry between them is still evident.

For the first time after the reconstruction of the Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion, an upstairs hallway is presented. Like the first floor, the upper floor set, which is basically in the same layout as during season 7, was built on stage 10 at CBS-MTM (RADFORD STUDIO CENTER). It is right behind the living room set (compare # 193).
LORIMAR's original blueprints of this set and many others are available for DFCF members in the Show – Production Office – Filming Locations – Movie Studios – Interior Sets section.

The filming location for the bathroom where Anna shoots up is not a set though. It is an actual bathroom in the private residence in Encino that also poses as Seven Pines (see above).

Mistake: In the scene in the Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion, shortly before Justin and Cookie leave, one of the two maids (not Melody, but the other one) is serving canapées in the living room (screen grab 1). In the subsequent frame favoring Maggie entering the living room, however, the same maid is already leaving the living room through the foyer (screen capture 2). When she has almost reached the dining room (screen grab 3), the scene cuts back to the fireplace in the living room where the maid is still serving (screen capture 4). When Nick, after two cuts back and forth, finally makes eye contact with Maggie, the maid is nowhere in sight anymore (screen grab 5).
Again, this is the typical mistake caused by the particular close-up filming technique — check # 001 (Chase and Maggie at the Gioberti Family Cemetery) for details.

As visible in detail for the first time in this episode, a new picture has been hanging in the stairway of the Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion since it was rebuilt. It is the 1888 artwork "Café Terrace at Night" ("Caféterras bij nacht"; oil on canvas) by Dutch artist VINCENT VAN GOGH (1853 – 1890).
As with all artwork in the Victorian Mansion, it remains unanswered throughout the series if they are originals or if they are meant to be reproductions. The original of the aforementioned artwork is located at the Kröller-Müller-Museum in Otterlo / The Netherlands.

Deleted scene: The director's cut contained a night scene after Angela's dinner party at Falcon Crest in act 2. In the den at Richard and Maggie's ranch, Richard gives Garth an assignment: He needs to have leverage on Pilar to make sure she will not support Sinclair. This scene was filmed, but removed in post-production.

The establishing shot of the San Francisco hotel where Maggie and Amos see Richard and Pilar is footage of the Hyatt Regency Hotel in San Francisco.

All the interiors of the San Francisco hotel (lobby and Sinclair's suite) are filmed at the Registry Hotel (nowadays Universal Hilton) in Universal City, CA.

Uncredited extra ROBERTA STORM appears in this episode again as Mrs. Winslow — at the hotel in San Francisco where Maggie and Amos are.
Compare # 219 for biographical details about this minor rôle and a list of appearances throughout the series.
For details about the extra, compare # 035.

Uncredited extra ROBIN BLAKE participates again as the middle-aged blonde Tuscany Valley socialite — this episode as a patron at the hotel in San Francisco where Maggie and Amos attend a conference.
Compare # 222 for biographical details about this minor rôle and a list of appearances throughout the series.
For details about the extra, compare # 015.

Uncredited extra SHARRI ZAK appears as the gray-haired Tuscany Valley socialite with the pony tail again; this episode at the hotel where Maggie sees Richard with Pilar.
Compare # 202 for biographical details about this rôle and a list of appearances throughout the series.
For details about the extra, compare # 009.

Uncredited extra GARY MOERKE appears as the gray-haired Tuscany Valley gentleman again — this time at the hotel in San Francisco.
Compare # 215 for a list of appearances throughout the series.
For details about the extra, compare # 072.

In original script drafts, Maggie was having lunch with Penny at the hotel in San Francisco where she sees Richard with Pilar. Shortly before filming started, the scene was changed to Maggie and Amos doing business at the hotel.

Deleted scene: The director's cut contained a night scene at the Ortega House in act 3. Lance is at the front door, looking for Pilar (who is in a San Francisco restaurant with Malcolm). César says she is in a business meeting and asks Lance in. In an awkward moment, César confesses that he thought years ago that Lance was Lisa's father and that he is now certain of it. Lance replies that he swears he did not know anything about it until Pilar recently told him. While César expresses his fears that Pilar might be hurt, Lance assures him that he is not a kid anymore and will stand up to Angela. This scene was filmed, but removed in post-production.

The filming location for the San Francisco restaurant where Pilar and Malcolm have dinner is the same one as used for the Washington, D.C. restaurant where Maggie and Peter Ryder had breakfast in # 181 and where Angela and Rosemont had dinner in # 182. Again, this is the Registry Hotel (Universal Hilton) in Universal City, CA.

Mistake: The close-ups of Pilar an Malcolm at the restaurant are from various takes that were combined in the editing process. This becomes apparent when Pilar's fingers are in slightly different positions on the glass in subsequent frames. Again, this is the typical mistake caused by the particular close-up filming technique — check # 001 (Chase and Maggie at the Gioberti Family Cemetery) for details.

Video Arcade, the Tuscany place where Ben, Anna and Nick are playing, is actually Malibu Castle (nowadays Sherman Oaks Castle Park) in Sherman Oaks, CA (interiors only).

Product placement: The gaming table Nick, Ben and Anna use to play air hockey is from the U.S. American manufacturer Dynamo.

Product placement: A cardiac monitor by Critikon Dinamap can be seen in the QVH emergency room.

Particularly the tiles on the walls give away that the interior set of the emergency room at the Queen of the Valley Hospital (scene with Anna and Dr. Ambrose) consists of the same elements as the massage room at the Del Oro from # 192.

License plate number of Richard's stretched black 1985 Lincoln Town Car limo: 2CSI908 — the same number known from five other cars: Frank's gray Jeep Wrangler YJ (at the beginning of this season), Raúl's gang's Chevrolet Scottsdale K-10 (# 188), Angela's light beige Mercedes-Benz 380 SL (towards the end of season 7), Eric's gray Chevrolet Corvette C4 (# 156) and Chase's red Porsche 928 S4 (season 6). Not an appropriate prop policy!

Season time frame:
Giving respect to the episode chronology up to # 199, the current episode must open in the night of March 2 to 3, 1989 and close on Sunday, 03/05/1989.
Willi Kender's fax for Richard is dated February 1989, which confirms the analysis of the time frame on this website because the telefax must have been sent quite some time before the events in the current episode.
