Tentative title: Nothing Ventured...

In the opening scene in the Gioberti House kitchen, J. Benson Landale pronounces the word "falcon" in "Falcon Crest" with the hard "o" sound that is typical of British English. This is odd because he previously pronounced "Falcon Crest" in the usual American way with a soft "a" in "falcon". It is particularly strange because neither the actor, ED WINTER, nor the character, Landale, is British.

Chase mentions the Park Wyndham, a restaurant with breathtaking views over San Francisco Bay. Unfortunately, it is never shown in the series.
N.B.: The restaurant mentioned by Chase is a fictional entity. It is not the real hotel in San Francisco named Parc 55 Wyndham Hotel. This hotel was established in the 2000's and its similar name is purely coincidental.

Inside joke: Angela mentions judge Mitchell, who will never be seen on the show. The character is named after unit production manager RON MITCHELL.

In this episode as well as in # 085, 086, 095 and 097, the filming location for the stables and stalls at the Reardon Ranch is the Los Angeles Equestrian Center in Burbank, CA. For previous cases of use of this filming location, see # 047, 049 and 067.

Historic allusion: Greg's first horse was named KING ARTHUR.

Edited scene: The act 2 opener with Gustav and Spheeris in the communications room was initially longer: It started out with Gustav splicing together tapes of the surveillance at Falcon Crest, which he would like to use to make Julia believe that Angela actually knows she is still alive. This part of the scene was edited in post-production.

Music score: Composer DANA KAPROFF uses elements of SHIRLEY WALKER's "Melissa & Cole" score (compare # 076) in the scene with Melissa and Cole in the Falcon Crest Winery Building in this episode.

Although establishing clips of the first filming location for the McKay House have been in regular use again since # 075 (see there), the new exterior scene for the current episode is filmed at the second location (compare # 055) again — just as in # 078. Is the McKay House supposed to be sort of a building complex consisting of wings in different style?

License plate number of Terry's yellow Lotus Esprit: 2EZI805. This car finally got a license plate in the meantime (compare # 069).

DAVID GUST, the tall, black-haired and mustached uncredited extra, who will be best remembered for his rôle as an assistant district attorney in # 091, 092 and 154, but who also plays different characters in the series, appears as a patron at the Tuscany Downs Turf Club in this episode; he is watching the horse race with binoculars from the balcony. See below for this extra's second appearance in this episode.
Compare # 187 for a list of appearances throughout the series.
For details about the extra, compare # 063.

Uncredited extra DOUGLAS MAIDA appears as Dave in this episode again — as usual, as a Tuscany Downs Turf Club waiter.
Compare # 224 for biographical details about this minor rôle and a list of appearances throughout the series.
For details about the extra, compare # 034.

Uncredited extra JACK DOUGLASS appears in this episode again — this time as a patron at the Tuscany Downs Turf Club.
Compare # 130 for a list of appearances throughout the series.
For details about the extra, compare # 032.

Real-life allusion: Angela and Emma see a VERDI opera according to Lance.

The railroad near the Tuscany Cross Road is mentioned this episode.

The filming location for the meeting between Ben and Chase near the Tuscany Cross Road is the brush behind stage 4 on the backlot of CBS/FOX STUDIOS (RADFORD STUDIO CENTER); compare # 074 for the previous use as a dig site.

The director's cut of this episode contained the following scenes, which were deleted in post-production:
  • At the end of Chase and Ben's meeting, it is revealed that Spheeris, in a car parked a good distance away, has been following them and watches them get off the van. With a huge telescopic lens, he takes a photo of Ben.
  • The original beginning of act 3 planned for Spheeris to show Gustav the photo of Ben. Spheeris explains that J. Benson Landale is an operative for the U.S. government. Gustav realizes that it must have been Ben who removed the wiretaps devices at the Gioberti House and thinks about having Ben and Chase killed at a later time.
  • Gustav has the doctored surveillance tapes (with Angela's voice, shouting "Julia! Julia!") played through hidden speakers in Julia's room at his house at night until Julia wakes up and believes she is losing her sanity. Then, he enters her room, offering her his "psychiatric" help again in order to get her completely under control.

Despite LORIMAR's "new wardrobe for new season" policy, this episode, Maggie wears the V-neck pullover she already wore in the season 3 main title.

Uncredited stand-in GORDON HODGINS appears as an extra again — this time in his usual rôle as a Tuscany Valley gentleman in front of the KRDC building in San Francisco.
Compare # 182 for a list of appearances throughout the series.
For details about GORDON HODGINS, compare # 001.

After his earlier appearance in this episode (see above), DAVID GUST, the tall, black-haired and mustached uncredited extra, who will be best remembered for his rôle as an assistant district attorney in # 091, 092 and 154, but who also plays different characters in the series, takes part in a second scene in this episode: now as a KRDC employee. Not a wise decision to choose this extra because of his usual appearances as a Tuscany County A.D.A.
Compare # 187 for a list of appearances throughout the series.
For details about the extra, compare # 063.

Cameraman's mistake: On the window of Terry's car, there is a reflection of the camera's lights for a short moment before the car race.

When Lance puts in the reverse gear right before the car race, his Porsche and Terry's Lotus are closer together than in the previous frame when Lance first arrived.

The filming location for the car race is Griffith Park in Los Angeles.

Mistake: In the scene after the car race, when Lance kicks and hits Joel, the fight scene is a combination of frames from various takes. This becomes apparent because Joel's position — compared to the car — is different: first near the side mirror, then near the rear fender and finally approximately in the center of the passenger's side of Terry's Lotus.
This is a mistake caused by the particular filming technique — check # 001 (Chase and Maggie at the Gioberti Family Cemetery) for details.

Lance's Porsche 928 — different from the 944 model in the two previous seasons (right photo) — is a different prop from the one used in previous and upcoming episodes. Slight differences can be noticed in the front bumper and the adverse weather lamps.
