Tentative titles:
  • The Grave Robber
  • The Vengeance

Strange: Turner Bates spent the night in the basement of the Gioberti House, but the Giobertis apparently did not notice anything of him that night.

Real-life allusion: Emma mentions NAPOLEON.

Illogical: How can Emma see Turner Bates on the Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion veranda from the windows in main tower studio? The roof of the veranda would rather block her view.

This is the only episode featuring an exterior view of the French door in the Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion living room to the southern veranda. Inconsistency: There is no such door in the interior living room set.

Emma loves the smell of sandalwood.

Promotion campaign: A framed UNICEF poster can be seen behind Emma in the Spring House.

Allusion to the movie industry: In the scene in the vineyard between Vickie and Cole, he mentions "The Grape Escape" as a parody of the 1963 movie "The Great Escape".

The Tuscany Valley County Deputy's patrol car is a 1981 Dodge Diplomat.

Post-production mistake: When Sheriff Tobias comes to see Angela, it is after dusk, as it can be seen through the windows in the foyer and study of the Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion. The night clip of the Mansion introducing that scene — showing the patrol car (footage from # 001) — is inconsistent in that place.

The filming locations for the scene with Turner in the phone booth and for the car chase (Turner and Emma in Lance's Corvette and the others following) on a Tuscany Valley country road are situated in Pico Canyon in Stevenson Ranch near Valencia, CA.
The wooden gate and the first part of the road was located at the corner of Pico Canyon Road and what is now Southern Oaks Drive, filmed towards what is now Morning Mist Drive. This area was redeveloped into a suburban community in the late 1990's and looks entirely different now. The location for the following car chase as well as the accident is Potrero Road (forking off from Pico Canyon Road).

ROBERT F. LYONS and MARGARET LADD are replaced by stunt doubles ROBERT HARRIS and PAULY MOODY respectively in the more dangerous parts of the drive in Lance's Corvette — both when the car speeds away from the gate and later when the car bumps into the bushes and the rock.

ROBERT FOXWORTH, BILLY R. MOSES and LORENZO LAMAS are replaced by stunt doubles in the more dangerous parts of the drive in the Giobertis' Jeep when the car leaves the gate — DICK WARLOCK replaces BILLY, and MIKE McGAUGHY replaces LORENZO.

CHAO-LI CHI is replaced by stunt double BOB DRAKE in the more dangerous parts of the drive in Angie's Mercedes-Benz 600 — when he speeds away from the gate in the limousine and when he tries to chase Lance's Corvette and the Giobertis' Jeep.

When Chase and Cole rescue Emma from the car, they open the door. Editing mistake in putting together various takes of the scene: When the car explodes shortly after that, the door is not that much ajar anymore.

Another mistake in the explosion of Lance's Chevrolet Corvette C3: First, the blast blows the hood up into the air (screen grab 1). Then the entire back of the car explodes (screen capture 2). But when the close-up of the car burning is shown after those scenes, the hood is on the car again, and the back of the car is intact. The fire just seems confined to the interior, burning through the broken back window and the front grille of the car (screen grab 3).
Either the editors did not have enough close-up coverage of the destroyed car, or they mixed up shots in post-production.

The bed in Emma's rooftop studio in the Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion is visible in this episode for the first time; even better, however, in # 010 (screen capture 3). It is not a LORIMAR owned prop, but was rented for seasons 1 and 2 from THE BURBANK STUDIOS (nowadays WARNER BROS. STUDIOS), which was a joint venture WARNER BROS. and COLUMBIA PICTURES at the time.
This bed was previously used on other shows filmed at THE BURBANK STUDIOS. For more details, check out the Beyond the Show – Props section.

Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion interior set — inconsistency: The set designers forgot to add a pitched roof area to the hallway to Emma's room, which ought to be atop the dining room. This will become even more obvious in # 019 (see there).

This is the last episode to be filmed (partly) in the Wine Country this season. The rest of the season will be entirely filmed in and around Los Angeles.
